Freshwater East in Pembrokeshire played host to the final of the 2024 Angling Cymru DragonMania Shore Championships – with Carmarthenshire angler Peter Hammond leaving victorious.
In what was a tough day for a stellar field of anglers, the two dogfish caught by Hammond ultimately proved enough to see him crowned as the new Angling Cymru Welsh Shore Champion.
The final brought together 20 anglers who had all booked their spot through four qualifying events earlier this year at Burry Port North Channel, Pendine, St Brides and Pwllheli.
Each fish caught received five points, plus the length in centimetres. With all dogfish counting as 50cm per fish, Hammond had 110 points overall which proved enough to take the victory.
Shaun Moore had a bass and a tub gurnard, giving him a length of 78cm for overall second place with 88pts. Chris Isaac, meanwhile, had three bass for 69cm and took overall third with 84pts.
In addition to the overall placings, zone prizes were also up for the grabs.
Moore took the honours in Zone A, ahead of 2022 overall winner Ben Edwards in second and joint-third Franco Attanasio and Rob Collins.
Isaac topped Zone B with Dorian Harris, Steve Smyth and two-time former World Champion Alan Price.
Well done to all the anglers who fished the final and a huge thank you to the South West Region committee for running it
