Shore DragonMania 2025 underway as Shaun Tucker again leads qualifiers from North Channel

Angling Cymru

Shore DragonMania 2025 is underway.

The results are in from the opening qualifying match at Burry Port North Channel, run by the South West Region. It was tough going with only six from 19 anglers catching fish.

Conditions seemed good with a light breeze, and milder temperatures than recently but, despite that, the fishing was very slow which, although unusual for this venue, was as it had been all winter.

Among the fish caught were two dogs, three whiting, one dab and two flounder.

Last year’s North Channel match winner Shaun Tucker was victorious again. He had one dogfish and one whiting. Second was Scott Busher (Tata Steel SAC) with one dogfish, with two flounder for Keith Williams (Tenby & District) and one whiting for both Ben Edwards (Tenby & District/Osprey SAC) and Steve Tucker (Carmarthen Sea Anglers).

Congratulations to the following five anglers, who have booked their place in the final at Pwllheli on 9 August.

1st Shaun Tucker 74cm

2nd Scott Busher 57cm

3rd Keith Williams 52cm

4th Ben Edwards 24cm

5th Steve Tucker 22cm

Shaun, Ben and Steve also qualified from the North Channel leg in 2024. Ben was the inaugural Shore DragonMania champion in 2022 when the final was also at Pwllheli.

The South West Region will host their second qualifier at Pendine on 19 July – where there should be a lot more fish including bass, flounders and mullet with potentially smooth hounds too if conditions suit.

In what is a slightly expanded format for this year, there will now be six qualifiers rather than four, with the North, East and South West Regions hosting two qualifiers each.
